HOW DOES A FORKLIFT WORK ?
To know how does a forklift works let us first know what work it does it is mainly used for loading or unloading heavy materials. For this work lifting mechanism is used in the forklift with the help of hydraulic cylinders roller chain pulleys. To operate the above steering and lifting controls have been provided when air pump provided at the base of the forklift is pressed it starts the air pump that draws the outside air through a filter and forces it into a tube reaching to the hydraulic cylinders which is made of a hollow tube closed at one end with a flexible lubricated piston. Air gets stuck through the base of the cylinder that allows gases to enter without leakage the volume of gas in the cylinder raises the pressure inside it.
The pressure applied to the area of the piston head generates an upward force. This force causes the piston to move up increasing the volume of gas and minimizing the pressure. This creates physical equilibrium at the fork lift height and an equivalent force from the gas and the forklifts load.To elevate the load operator pushes the handle in forward direction signaling the fork lift to pump excess air to the cylinder and the operator pulls the handle to backward direction which signals the special valve to discharge gas from the cylinder. Roller chain pulleys help to move the load into position along a forklift mast. As these chains are attached to the forks holding the load the additional force from the cylinders rotate the chains and move the load upwards.
HOW MANY TYPES OF FORKLIFT ?
There are three main types of forklifts :-
(1) Electric(3 wheel/4 wheel) Fork Lifts which are powered by diesel/natural gas etc. These are good for outdoor use.
(2) Battery Operated Forklifts which are used for indoor use These are much quieter.
(3) Manual Forklifts These are non- motorized These are good to lift material off the ground only a few inches and also have. Low load capacity.
